A founding partner of the Firm, Ambiga brings with her four decades of experience in a wide array of commercial, corporate and civil litigation matters as well as significant experience in intellectual property and industrial law matters. She has been listed as a Band 1 practitioner for dispute resolution by Chambers Asia Pacific and ranked as an IP Star (Trademark) by Managing IP.
Ambiga has been instructed to lead as senior counsel in a variety of civil and commercial cases including intellectual property, banking and securities, land and employment disputes which have inevitably seen her argue landmark decisions which have gone on to shape the jurisprudence in these areas.
In her 40 years at the Bar, Ambiga has consistently appeared at all tiers of the Malaysian courts. She is considered one of Malaysia’s most distinguished trial and appellate lawyers mostly due to her effective and concise advocacy and strategic advice focused on achieving the best outcome for the client.
Prior to establishing Sreenevasan, Ambiga was a partner at Skrine, one of the largest law firms in Malaysia. At Skrine, she headed the litigation division of both the Intellectual Property and Industrial Relations departments.
She is a former President of the Malaysian Bar and has always been vocal in advocating human rights for all, constitutional supremacy and ultimately the rule of law. Throughout her career at the Bar, Ambiga has represented and advocated for the rights of marginalised and vulnerable communities in various public interest and human rights litigation.
The Firm is proud of Ambiga’s contribution away from legal practice. She was the Chairperson of the Coalition for Clean and Fair Elections (BERSIH 2.0) which championed the right of Malaysians to free and fair elections and through her work in this regard, effective change was brought about in the Malaysian electoral process. She was also a member of the Institutional Reforms Committee which was set up in 2018 to advise the government on reforms needed in key public institutions.
She has been appointed as a Commissioner of the International Commission of Jurists and most recently a member of the Committee of Experts by the International Labor Organisation.
Ambiga has also received the prestigious United States Secretary of State ‘International Women of Courage' Award in 2009 and has recently been awarded the Ruth Bader Ginsburg Medal of Honour 2023 by the World Jurist Association.
